Experimenting with Year-Round Gardening in a 57-Foot Sigma

What do you grow in your greenhouse?
Tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, strawberries, herbs, potatoes, Aloe Vera, ginger, tropical succulents, green onions, bok choy, spinach, sprouts/microgreens. And the one and only Mango Tree in Wyoming started from a seed.

How did this greenhouse change your growing season?
I am taking this opportunity to experiment with ways of gardening that I can’t without a greenhouse. I have set up misting systems for sprouts/microgreens and leafs I don’t want dirt on like spinach and leaf cabbage. I have also successfully sprouted a mango seed! Always trying new things. Of course I have the usual. Tomatoes and peppers and so on.

How was your experience buying from Planta Greenhouses?
My husband bought the first 20 foot Sigma. Everyone we talked to was helpful and answered questions when buying and building. We decided we need more room so we bought 40 more feet. Intending to make it 60 feet long. It didn’t quite work that way and with the help of one of the fellows at the shop he helped us figure out why and was going to help us figure out what parts we needed to bring it together. But we decided 57 feet would be long enough. For now. We shall see.

What's your favourite thing about your Planta Greenhouse?
Wow. I don’t have one favorite thing. It is very peaceful in the greenhouse.

One thing I really like about it over my previous greenhouses is the steel frame. Much sturdier than aluminum.

What do you want to say to a person considering buying a Planta Greenhouse?
We built on a concrete slab. We use stock watering troughs as raised beds. We also have some airponics set up in troughs and totes. (Similar to hydroponics but the roots get misted and don’t hang in water). The misting system uses recycled water from within the greenhouse. It gets very humid running a greenhouse. Add some misting and it literally will rain. We collect that moisture with a dehumidifier and pour into the misting system barrels. We have a well about 50 feet from the greenhouse that we use to water with (except the misting system) the watering from the well is automated with a float switch in a barrel for filling the barrel. The barrel has a heater set at 70, and auto pH adjuster, as well as an ozone bubbler to kill bad bacteria.

We cool with evaporative cooling, swamp coolers and a misting system.

We have tables set up for holding clones and supplies.

Since it is so long, we have plenty of room.

Where did you install this greenhouse?
In my backyard

Is this your first greenhouse?
No

Any other comments?
If I ever have to buy another greenhouse I will go wider. Still from Planta, of course.
