Feeding My Family with Homegrown Greens

I grow dahlias, eucalyptus, heirloom chrysanthemums, spinach, kale, snapdragons, and zinnia.

My Planta Greenhouse has helped me extend my growing seasons in spring and late into fall.

My experience buying from Planta Greenhouses was easy to purchase, and we were thankful for the videos online to help us put it together.

I wish the bottom panels could slide up or be removed to help with the heat in spring and fall. This would create better temperatures.

My favorite thing about my Planta Greenhouse is that I get to feed my family with homegrown greens all season long. I also get to extend my flower growing season well into the fall after frosts.

I wish the screws were galvanized steel or didn't rust so quickly. It's cold and wet here with hot and humid summers. We are praying they hold up.

Testing the Greenhouse Journey in 2025

We grow tomato, spinach, carrots, mint, zucchini, potato, coriander, parsley, different types of peppers, different types of corn, cucumber, roots, and flowers inside the greenhouse.

The greenhouse improved our gardening experience by extending the growth time.

The buying experience was not bad. They mixed up my order a couple of times, causing a delay, but the customer service was very supportive and jumped in to resolve and mitigate the situation.

We added interior sides, lights, and hanging growing light lamps.

I’ll test it this year; can’t say till the end of 2025.

Harvesting Tomatoes with Snow on the Ground

I installed my first Planta Greenhouse in 2023, and it has completely changed the way I garden. From the start, the customer service was excellent—knowledgeable and helpful, and the purchase process was smooth.

Inside, I’ve grown a wide variety of seedlings including tomatoes, peppers, peas, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins, onions, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, all sorts of squash, herbs, flowers, and even loofah plants. The greenhouse allowed me to start planting earlier and extend my season well into winter. I even experimented by planting tomatoes from seed in late summer, and to my surprise, I was harvesting them in early November. Cabbage planted at the same time was ready by early January—frostbitten leaves and all, still delicious! I also managed to harvest potatoes in January while there was snow on the ground.

Before setup, we poured a concrete pad with a built-in drain to support the greenhouse. Inside, I created a dedicated workspace with tables for seed starting and added large grow bags and containers to continue my fall and winter crops.

My favorite thing about my Planta Greenhouse is how it gives me the ability to grow through the cold months and jumpstart the next season. If you love gardening and are considering a greenhouse—don’t hesitate. You won’t regret it!

Still Standing After 60 MPH Winds

We grow grapes, tomatoes, peppers, and onions inside. We also use it to start other vegetables before moving them into the outside garden. The greenhouse has enabled us to start seedlings much earlier and continue growing well into the fall.

Buying from Planta Greenhouses was easy, and the delivery went smoothly. Customer service was attentive and quick to respond. We added auto vents, lights, and a circulation fan as upgrades. The structure was fairly easy to assemble and is extremely well-built—we’ve had 40–60 mph winds and even the remnants of Helene pass through, and the greenhouse has held up perfectly.

We love it and would love to have another!

From Heirloom Seeds to Winter Greens

Inside, I grow heirloom seeds sourced from Baker Creek, MO, including Russian red and dwarf kale, May Queen, Tom Thumb, and Gustav’s lettuces, Detroit Red beets, Dreadlocks amaranth, Longneck garlic, and Spoon and San Marzano tomatoes.

The Sungrow 26 has been a true asset to my household. It extends the growing season for hot weather crops and allows me to grow lettuce and kale year-round. It’s also a sturdy structure that can withstand the elements and requires low maintenance.

Customer service was excellent. I assembled the greenhouse six months after purchasing it and discovered that the kit was missing an essential set of strapping material. I emailed the company directly, and they sent the missing parts at no cost, including free shipping.

To improve the setup, I solidified the foundation by adding tons of crushed stone around the base. I'm now looking into insulation and plan to install louvers along with the heater/cooler sold by Planta. My favorite part? Growing lettuce year-round and being able to enjoy the warmth of the greenhouse even in the dead of winter. On sunny days, it’s the perfect place to sit and take in the season without the harsh cold.

    FAQ

    Residential Greenhouses

Are there doors on both ends of the greenhouse?

Yes! All of our Sungrow models come with manual doors and a manual window above the door on both ends of the greenhouse.

    Do you have lean-to greenhouses?

Unfortunately, we do not have any lean-to greenhouses available at this time.

Do you make custom size greenhouses?

All of our products come pre-packaged by the manufacturer and can only be customized in length (6.5' extension). However, the height of the greenhouse can also be increased if placed on a base (up to 5ft above the ground)

How is the greenhouse anchored to the ground?

Every greenhouse kit comes with optional legs that can be dug directly into the ground. The amount of legs included depends on the greenhouse size.

What is the frame made of?

The greenhouse frame is made out of heavy-duty galvanized steel.

What polycarbonate panels are used for residential greenhouses?

We use 6mm heavy-duty, double-walled polycarbonate panels with a UV-protected outside layer for our Residential Greenhouses.

What type of base/foundation is the best for me?

There are several different types of greenhouse bases, information, and pictures posted by our customers on our Customer Stories page and our Planta Facebook page. Additionally, you can learn more about "Types of Greenhouse Bases - With Pros & Cons of Each" on our blog.

    Roof Ventilation Windows

Can I add windows for my greenhouse later?

Roof ventilation windows work as an add-on and can be installed only once the greenhouse installation is complete. Windows can be added later as well.

How do the Automatic Ventilation Windows work?

Our Automatic Ventilation Windows do not require any batteries or electricity. A heat-activated mechanism will open/close the window once a certain temperature is reached.

How many roof ventilation windows are recommended for the greenhouse?

It is strongly recommended to go with an even amount of roof ventilation windows. This is so you can place at least one on either side of the greenhouse. The amount of windows required depends on the greenhouse size, the climate you are in, and the types of plants that will be grown inside the greenhouse.

What are the opening and maximum opening temperatures for the Automatic Windows?

The opening temperature is between 17 °C and 25°C (62.6°F to 77°F), while the maximum opening is at 30 °C (86°F).

    Sungrow Greenhouses

What is the snow load on the Sungrow models?

The Sungrow models can hold snow load weight of up to 6ft of fresh snow (75 psf or 360 kg / m2) on top of the greenhouse.

What is the width of the door opening?

For our Sungrow models, the door opening width is 800mm or 31.5".

What is the wind resistance on the Sungrow models?

    The wind resistance is 100km/h (65 mp/h).

    Customization Options

Can I add my own vents, fans, heaters, and lights?

Of course! The polycarbonate is very easy to work with, and the galvanized steel frame is strong enough to support any additional accessories.

Can I get a longer greenhouse?

Most of our residential and commercial greenhouses are extendable up to 100ft. Learn more about our extension kits for both the Sungrow and Sigma models.

How can I customize my greenhouse?

The customization possibilities are truly endless with a Planta Greenhouse. To help you get started, take a look through “16 Ways to Supercharge Your Greenhouse” on our blog.

Is hanging plants, heaters, and hammocks safe from my greenhouse frame? How much weight does it handle without affecting the guarantee?

It is safe to hang plants and accessories on a Sungrow greenhouse since each internal reinforcement arch can withstand up to 100 lbs/45.3 Kg. On the Sigma series, you can pre-drill the holes on the framing and hang small things. We would not suggest hanging anything heavier than 5 – 10 lbs / 2.2 – 4.5 Kg per arch.

May I heat my greenhouse with fire pits or similar?

You can use any heating source inside, like electricity, gas, propane, and even wood. It may be tricky to heat with wood, as you want to ensure that you keep the stove/pit away from the panels to prevent them from melting or burning if they are too close to the fire source. In this case, the customers ideally would want to come up with an exhaust system, making sure it’s not in contact with the panels, for being a flammable material.
