A Warm Haven in the Cold Adirondacks

Year Installed: 2024
Is this your first greenhouse? No
What do you grow inside your greenhouse? Herbaceous and woody locally native plants. We start vegetables in the spring.
How did your Planta Greenhouse improve your gardening experience? We live in a cold spot in the Adirondack Mountains. We need the protection from late spring snows and the warmth it provides to begin germination—otherwise, we would not be able to garden here. Our Planta Greenhouse is not heated, which works well for the native plants—the natural up/down temperature swings are just what these plants need.
What was your experience like buying from Planta Greenhouses? Purchasing and delivery was not a problem—customer service was wonderful.
What type of upgrades have you done? We use storage-type shelving and a wood chip base—pictured. We do not have in-ground beds, but we have added a shade cloth strip inside, which we think helps hold some heat and blocks some of the brightest sun—we believe the plants do better.
What's your favorite thing about your Planta Greenhouse? It is tight and sturdy. I sent a winter picture—this has been a hard winter [2025]—the snow slides off, and I just need to push back the snow at the bottom so there is room for it to slide. But it is most enjoyable working in it during a late spring snowstorm.
Anything else you'd like to add? It has been really nice to have in this cold country. I did respond to your request for stories with three pictures, but I failed to mention that one picture was meant to show that in the early spring, the warmth of the greenhouse is great for rising bread—among other things, of course.
