I just love going out to the greenhouse during days when the weather is poor, feeling like I've been transported to another planet. It's warm, lush and relaxing. The smells from the herbs and flowers I grow make me feel like it's a pleasant spring day. It's also a great place to read a book during the winter!
It gave me the ability to have desert plants without worrying about too much water. Additionally, it extended my growing season. I was able to keep a few plants in all winter.
This winter in Indiana we had a batch of spinach that we harvested in late November and our planta is not heated. The spinach survived and by early March we were picking spinach from the same plants.
I wasn’t able to finish installing one side as we are only there for a few weeks and I had other projects. But the quality of the greenhouse meant I could leave it somewhat unfinished over the winter without concern.
We added a heater so we can grow 4 seasons now. We have a heavily treed lot so I oriented the greenhouse to get the most sun in the winter and the leaves on the trees provide shade in the summer to help with over heating.
Our Planta greenhouse gives us a jump on spring growing by letting us grow veggies and flower starts. Nice to have your own fresh food when the snow flies.
Very little work to maintain it and keep unwanted animals out of my vegetable garden and eating fresh is the main reason and this days with the price of fresh produce we eat so much better.
