    Fresh produce, year-round!

It was a late start to the growing season, but I managed to grow a variety of tomatoes, hot peppers, green peppers, and flowers. The installation took about 10 days, including some rain delays, and the builders did a great job—even finishing the interior before I started planting vegetables, flowers, and herbs.

Inside, I added calcite stones for flooring, a large growing bin, and solar string lights. I also used a fine misting hose for watering. I plan to add solar-powered fans to cool the greenhouse and an additional solar panel to heat it during the winter.

My Sungrow Urban greenhouse has already improved my gardening experience by extending my ability to grow year-round. I can now look out my back door and start planting seeds in winter. It’s exactly what I expected it to be—and I know I can expand it by ordering additional sections in the future.

Fresh produce, year-round. What’s not to love!

Fresh Greens in Winter & Zucchini in November

I installed my Planta Greenhouse in the garden, and it's my first greenhouse. Inside, I grow all my vegetable starts, peppers, herbs, and cold-weather greens—pretty much anything. It has completely improved my gardening experience. I can start getting tomatoes as early as late May or early June, and this year we were even able to harvest zucchini in November. Most winters, we’re able to grow greens all season long, and all of my starts perform much better when grown in the greenhouse.

Buying from Planta was easy. There were a few missing bolts, but they were replaced without issue. I’ve made a few DIY upgrades, including raised beds made from cut-down insulated restroom partitions with defects, and a drip irrigation system that’s filled by runoff from the greenhouse roof. My favorite thing about the greenhouse is that it can hold snow without any structural issues!

A lovely ambiance in the garden zone

We installed our first greenhouse in 2022 and primarily use it to grow heat-loving crops like tomatoes (multiple varieties), sweet and hot peppers, cucumbers for pickling (and now an Armenian variety), eggplants, and herbs. For 2025, we plan to take it further by growing more crops, extending the season, and using the greenhouse for most of our seed starting.

Before purchasing the Planta Greenhouse, I had gardened in three different climates and zones across British Columbia. When my husband and I bought our first home, creating a garden from scratch was a dream—tree and stump removal included. The greenhouse was my top priority. It has truly extended the season and added a beautiful presence to our garden area.

I chose Planta after doing research and reading customer testimonials. From the moment I placed the order to the day the structure arrived, the Planta team was great to work with.

Our setup has evolved from open space and growing in buckets to adding garden beds, a raised drain floor, and a metal shelving unit we found that fit perfectly. In 2025, we plan to install a heater to help extend the season even further.

My favorite thing about the greenhouse is how it became such a meaningful space. When we built it in the spring, I didn’t know I was pregnant. After bringing our newborn home that winter, I found comfort just standing in the greenhouse for a few minutes a day, soaking up the sunlight. Two years later, my toddler and I spend hours there together—he helps…

I cherish every sunny winter day spent inside

I installed my first greenhouse, a Planta, in 2023—and it has quickly become one of the most valuable parts of my home. The way I use it shifts with the seasons, but it’s never idle. In winter, it’s my sanctuary: a tech-free retreat where I can recharge, get creative, and enjoy the sun and warmth. I overwinter a few plants and prep compost using a modular garden bed.

Come spring, the greenhouse gives me a head start on seeds like kale, broccoli, radishes, onions, amaranth, anise hyssop, and annual flowers like marigolds and zinnias. In the summer, it becomes a drying station for herbs like lemon thyme, peppermint, and anise. I even attempted to use it as a sauna—but it gets way too hot! In fall, I bring in plants to extend their season and prep the compost for winter again. Every season brings a new purpose, and every sunny winter day spent inside feels like a gift.

The greenhouse has transformed my gardening experience: extending my growing season, helping with composting, transplanting, seed starting, and so much more. Last year, I added a modular garden bed and incorporated Hügelkultur techniques for winter composting—one of my favorite DIY upgrades so far.

Customer service with Planta has been excellent from the start. And if I had to choose just one favorite feature? It’s the feeling of stepping inside on a sunny winter day, with snow piled outside, and being surrounded by bone-warming heat and brightness. Truly priceless.

From Short Seasons to Full Harvests

Our first planting season was both awesome and a learning experience. Living in Northern Ontario, our growing season is short, and wildlife constantly stole our harvests. The greenhouse changed everything—it allowed us to start planting early and continue well beyond what was possible in the past. For the first time, I enjoyed fresh tomatoes and other veggies without worrying about deer or squirrels getting to them first.

Inside the greenhouse, we grow a wide variety of crops including tomatoes, squash, lettuce, herbs, cucumbers, kohlrabi, beans, sugar peas, peppers, pottypan, tomatillos, spinach, cabbage, strawberries, and flowers. My husband built a wood floor and raised boxes along the outer walls, plus one central box that lets me walk around everything easily. We also repurposed large PVC pipes—cut in half and capped—to grow herbs without taking up space in the main beds.

Buying from Planta was incredibly easy, even living in a rural area. I had concerns about delivery, but it went smoothly. The communication throughout the process was better than expected, and any questions I had were quickly answered.

If I had to give one tip: watch the video instructions. The written ones were tough to follow, but the videos made assembly so much easier—and probably saved our marriage, too! I absolutely love our greenhouse and can’t wait to see what we grow this year.

FAQ

Residential Greenhouses

Are there doors on both ends of the greenhouse?

Yes! All of our Sungrow models come with manual doors and a manual window above the door on both ends of the greenhouse.

Do you have lean-to greenhouses?

Unfortunately, we do not have any lean-to greenhouses available at this time.

Do you make custom size greenhouses?

All of our products come pre-packaged by the manufacturer and can only be customized in length (6.5' extension). However, the height of the greenhouse can also be increased if placed on a base (up to 5ft above the ground)

How is the greenhouse anchored to the ground?

Every greenhouse kit comes with optional legs that can be dug directly into the ground. The amount of legs included depends on the greenhouse size.

What is the frame made of?

The greenhouse frame is made out of heavy-duty galvanized steel.

What polycarbonate panels are used for residential greenhouses?

We use 6mm heavy-duty, double-walled polycarbonate panels with a UV-protected outside layer for our Residential Greenhouses.

What type of base/foundation is the best for me?

There are several different types of greenhouse bases, information, and pictures posted by our customers on our Customer Stories page and our Planta Facebook page. Additionally, you can learn more about "Types of Greenhouse Bases - With Pros & Cons of Each" on our blog.

Roof Ventilation Windows

Can I add windows for my greenhouse later?

Roof ventilation windows work as an add-on and can be installed only once the greenhouse installation is complete. Windows can be added later as well.

How do the Automatic Ventilation Windows work?

Our Automatic Ventilation Windows do not require any batteries or electricity. A heat-activated mechanism will open/close the window once a certain temperature is reached.

How many roof ventilation windows are recommended for the greenhouse?

It is strongly recommended to go with an even amount of roof ventilation windows. This is so you can place at least one on either side of the greenhouse. The amount of windows required depends on the greenhouse size, the climate you are in, and the types of plants that will be grown inside the greenhouse.

What are the opening and maximum opening temperatures for the Automatic Windows?

The opening temperature is between 17 °C and 25°C (62.6°F to 77°F), while the maximum opening is at 30 °C (86°F).

Most of our residential and commercial greenhouses are extendable up to 100ft. Learn more about our extension kits for both the Sungrow and Sigma models.

How can I customize my greenhouse?

The customization possibilities are truly endless with a Planta Greenhouse. To help you get started, take a look through “16 Ways to Supercharge Your Greenhouse” on our blog.

Is hanging plants, heaters, and hammocks safe from my greenhouse frame? How much weight does it handle without affecting the guarantee?

It is safe to hang plants and accessories on a Sungrow greenhouse since each internal reinforcement arch can withstand up to 100 lbs/45.3 Kg. On the Sigma series, you can pre-drill the holes on the framing and hang small things. We would not suggest hanging anything heavier than 5 – 10 lbs / 2.2 – 4.5 Kg per arch.

May I heat my greenhouse with fire pits or similar?

You can use any heating source inside, like electricity, gas, propane, and even wood. It may be tricky to heat with wood, as you want to ensure that you keep the stove/pit away from the panels to prevent them from melting or burning if they are too close to the fire source. In this case, the customers ideally would want to come up with an exhaust system, making sure it’s not in contact with the panels, for being a flammable material.

What is the snow load on the Sungrow models?

The Sungrow models can hold snow load weight of up to 6ft of fresh snow (75 psf or 360 kg / m2) on top of the greenhouse.

For our Sungrow models, the door opening width is 800mm or 31.5".
